10/20

Today in class we discussed Affirmative Action. I think that it is a good thing, however i think people take more advantage of it than good that it gives back to the public. My dad knew a guy in law school who filled out his whole application in Spanish, the guy could not speak one word of spanish. But because the admissions people did not know that he had his whole tuition paid for. I do not think that this is right at all, i think that this should help people that actually qualify for the policy, obviously this guy didn't.

I agree with affirmative action as well...I believe that ever person needs a chance to succeed just like the next. Although like every law here in the states, there are great things that come from them and then there are bad, such as you said, this guy taking advantage of the system.

It seems to me like all that demographic information could be collected when people show up for class or enroll. If the application is up to par and they deserve to go to a particular college, then let them in. The colleges shouldn't even know the demographics of the applicants until they have either been accepted or denied.

I think this was one smart guy. He found a leak in the system and took advantage of it. I dont blame him at all, it doesnt change my life at all. Not saying I would do it, but he was able to get away with it so y not. Affirmative action should have more discrete guidlines other than the person filling out his application in spanish. I would think he would have to go through an interview, and most staff are trained to be bilingual anyway.
