Men Working

So I don't know if anyone ever drives down comanche street in front of the alkek parking garage but for the past few weeks there have been people outside working on the garage. Everyone morning I drive by the garage to go to the LBJ parking garage and I notice a sign that says "men working". I found this to be crazy considering the society that we live in. This sign makes the inference that there are only men working on the parking garage and, of course, I found this extremely concerning to our society. Just wondering if anyone had noticed.

I have not noticed the sign but you would think that they would not make a "men" working sign anymore. It is surprising how many things in the world today are still gendered.

I began to notice this recently. My favorite was a few weeks ago I was in Lockhart where I saw that particular sign. Not far down the road were the "men" working, and holding the slow sign was a woman. I understand that construction work doesn't see a lot of women, but if we are expected to say anchorperson or firefighter, the government should be able to produce a sign that says people working or even workers working.

i can understand your frustration but it is men working. It would be problematic if a woman was working as well, but i dont think its the case. Construction is a male dominated environment, im not saying that it should be an excuse, nor should it be acceptable if it was intentionally done, but i believe it was an unconscious decision.

In this world, there are still a lot of gender discriminations. When I was going shopping at outlet mall, some store said that “If you buy any clothes, all clothes are 10% off. And you can get a mirror, only for girl!” I know women likes to go shopping than men, but they did not have anything special for men. There are many things only for men, at the same time; women also can get many special things.

For the most part, construction workers are men....I could see it being an issue if there was a woman working on that particular sight. I bet no one else really thought about it that way...what an observation.
